Chatshow host Richard Madeley has admitted he cheated on his ex-wife with TEN other women.

Richard, 52, famous for his clean-cut family image, says he had nearly a dozen affairs during his marriage to first wife Lynda – one of them with colleague Judy Finnegan, who became his second wife, TV partner and the love of his life.

Asked how many women he bedded during the six-year marriage, the star said: “Oh lots, numerous, probably in the space of about five years, about 10.

“I’d have to draw a veil over some of the reasons for it happening. I was very lonely and I think I clung to Lynda. We’d only lived together for a while and then we got married – I pushed for it – and then my dad died.

“In any marriage that would have been a very bad start and it quickly became clear to both of us that we weren’t suited at all and things started to fall apart.

“Although the marriage had some very happy moments, there was a lot of negativity in it. I’m not using that as an excuse. It’s wrong to have affairs, but I was a very young man.”

Richard was just 21 when he wed Lynda, eight years his senior, in 1977. The couple were still married when Richard met Judy five years later.

Asked about his first impressions of Judy, now 60, Richard tells Piers Morgan’s Life Stories: “She was a hotty. I’d seen her on the network when I was at Yorkshire TV and I thought she was hot and, when I met her, I was slightly in awe of her.

“Judy’s always been lovely. She is extremely intelligent. But she was married and the mother of twins then and as far as I was aware she was completely off-limits.

“But it turned out her own marriage wasn’t in great shape.”

Richard and Judy married in 1986 and had two children Jack, 23 and Chloe, 22, who’s now a reporter on Richard and Judy’s New Position on the Watch channel.

Richard also revealed how he cried after being arrested for shoplifting in 1994 – and thought it could end  his career. “I was in bits,” he said.  “I knew I was in big trouble if I’d been convicted.”
